About Us
The Carteret County Historical Society (CCHS) serves the Carteret County community of North Carolina. Its mission focuses on preserving and presenting local history to its members, residents, and visitors. This is done through stories, films, publications, exhibits and presentations that are supported by its collections of artifacts, photographs, books, media, and documents. In July 2021, CCHS celebrated its 50th Anniversary of serving the community in this way.
The History Museum of Carteret County is where this all happens. Under one roof, the Museum features short and long-term exhibits, an event center available for rent, a research archive, and a museum gift shop that carries a variety of books by local authors.

The Historical Society’s Board of Trustees include those native to Carteret County or North Carolina, as well as those from other states. They bring with them a diversity of backgrounds and skill sets. But most importantly, all of them care very deeply about the rich history of the area.
