The History Museum of Carteret County invites you to a month filled with learning, creativity, community, and celebration. Mark your calendars and join us for these upcoming programs.

September Programs

September 5–6 • Coin Show Saturday: 10:00 AM–5:00 PM Sunday: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM Spend the weekend exploring coins, currency, and collectibles with regional experts and enthusiasts. Admission is free.

September 12 • 1:00–3:00 PM Giles Willis — “The Tale of Two Books… History of Core Town and the Revolutionary War in Carteret County” Location: Gloucester Community Center / Public Library 476 Pigott Road, Gloucester Admission: Free

Join author Giles Willis for an engaging historical presentation rooted in Carteret County’s Revolutionary War past.

September 18 • 4:00–6:00 PM Literary Voices: Poetry & Prose — Dolly Parton Tribute Edition

In light of Dolly Parton’s passing, this month’s Literary Voices gathering will honor her extraordinary life, lyrical storytelling, and lifelong commitment to literacy.

Whether you are a seasoned writer, a first‑time reader, or someone who simply enjoys listening, Literary Voices offers an educational and welcoming forum for creative expression.

Featuring:

Local musical talent Jasper Kelley, performing in celebration of Dolly’s musical legacy
Highlights from Carteret Partnership for Children, home of Dolly’s Imagination Library

Participants are welcome to:

Read a favorite poem or short story
Play a favorite song
Display artwork and share the story behind it
Present music paired with video or other creative media

Admission: Free Donations: Appreciated Light refreshments provided

September 24 • 12:00 Noon Lunch with Dr. David Cecelski — “Stories from Home”

October 2–4 • Seafood Festival Parking Fundraiser Parking available at the Museum for a fee — an excellent annual fundraiser for the History Museum of Carteret County. To sign up for a shift, contact Gail Murray at 252‑247‑7533. We need volunteers!

October 9 • 1:00 PM

Svea Elisha — Duke Marine Lab Archival Project Where the Waters Meet explores Beaufort’s coastal history through the preserved materials of Arthur Sperry Pearse, Duke Marine Lab zoologist (1927–1948). This photobook and presentation weave past and present, inviting reflection on our coastal community’s enduring natural and scientific heritage. Admission: Free Donations are greatly appreciated. All are welcome!

October 16 • 4:00–6:00 PM

Literary Voices: Poetry & Prose — Featuring Mike Wagoner Mike Wagoner will share selections from Viewing Ca’e Banks from the Inside Out. Additional readers are welcome. Admission: Free Donations are appreciated.

October 30 • 7:00 PM

Ghost Tales with Carrie Sheehan Admission: $10 per family Enjoy ghost stories with s’mores fixings — graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate — and hot cider.
